Deep cleaning of your carpet

Although vacuuming every day can help remove dust and dirt, deep cleaning of the carpet is recommended to give it a good thorough cleaning. A deep cleaning of your carpet is also recommended, especially if your carpet is heavily soiled or has not been cleaned in weeks or even months. Professional carpet cleaning services do this, although if you have enough time, you can do it yourself. Here are the steps for deep cleaning your carpet.

First, you will need a steam cleaner. You have the option to buy or rent one. When you rent the machine, everything you need is usually already included when it comes to the equipment. You will probably have to buy the cleaning solutions separately.

The first thing you want to do is vacuum your carpet. Then spray the pretreatment solution onto the mat. If your carpet is slightly dirtier, you should increase the amount of pretreatment instead of the actual cleaning solution. The steam professional cleaners will come with a hose and a container. Pour hot water into the container following the instructions in the machine manual. When cleaning the carpet, it is important to remember not to soak it in too much water, as it could damage the floor underneath it. Please note that you can always add more but you cannot withdraw.

After this, it will perform a process called water extraction. You will know if the water extraction was successful by placing your hand on the mat. If you remove your hand and find drops of water or if there is still an excessive amount of moisture, it means that you must extract again. If you put your hand on the mat and it feels damp, it means you have removed it correctly. Remember that your mat is not yet completely dry, so avoid walking on it. Let it dry for at least 24 hours. Opening your windows and turning on some fans will help speed up the process.

If you want your mat to look cleaner longer, you can vaporize it with a solution consisting of 1 cup vinegar and 1 gallon of water. If you have pets at home, there are solutions available that are specifically designed to clean and remove stains and fur from pets.
