Unusual security camera mounts

Sometimes your standard CCTV mount will not meet the needs of your surveillance system, and you may need something more adaptable. From glass to metal surfaces, there is a wide variety of camera mounts available on the market today, and this article will discuss some possible alternatives and how they can be used to solve even the most difficult surveillance installation problems.

Before you buy a security camera or find a mount to use with it, you need to decide where you want to place it and think about what it may involve. Can the surface of your mount be drilled? Is the material strong enough to support the camera? If you can't drill into the surface, what kind of material is it made of? This last question is very helpful in determining the selection of alternative frames available to you.
Magnetic CCTV Mounts

Magnetic mounts have helped fill a hole when it comes to metal surfaces. In general, people are unwilling or unable to pierce a metal surface, and this can cause quite a headache when trying to figure out how to secure your camera. With a magnetic mount, you can easily move where your security camera is located on a metal surface.

It is a good idea, when looking at magnetic frames, to make sure that the magnet is strong enough to support your camera. With magnetic mounts like the 81030-MM from SMC (Signal Measurement Corporation) which has 100lb pull capacities; This is generally not a problem, but prevention is better than cure. So if you have a metal surface on which you want to mount a security camera; looking on quality magnetic media is probably the best route to take.

Adhesive CCTV Security Cameras Mounts

Adhesive "Sticker" mounts are exactly what they sound like. Using a standard camera connection with a motherboard mounted on a double-sided sticker; These brackets make it so you can quickly mount it on any number of different surfaces, including glass. Saddle drop like this is their weight carrying capacity.

In general, sticker-based CCTV mounts can only handle around a standard weight of a couple of pounds. It is very important to keep this in mind because you do not want to mount your security camera only to have it fall and break due to excess weight. Some excellent examples of this type of mount can be found on the GOLD G-MONMT.

Additional CCTV mounting solutions

One way to get a security camera to adhere to a glass surface would be with a suction cup mount. As with adhesive mounts, these types of mounts cannot carry much weight; but they provide an excellent solution for mounting vehicle cameras for short periods with cameras up to around 3 lbs.

Another possibility of mounting outside the norm is velcro. By using Velcro as a connector, a slightly more robust and durable CCTV mount can be provided over the sticker and suction cup options.
