The history of basketball

Unlike many games, basketball has a very clear history. It was invented by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891, and the first game was played on January 20, 1892. This was at the YMCA gym in Springfield, Massachusetts. It is not that frequent that there is such a crucial story about the origin of a game, especially a team game. All too often, team games, such as baseball and hockey, have evolved without anyone specifically inventing them. Nor can they say that they were first played on a specific date. The history of basketball is quite refreshing in this regard.

The game started using a peach basket, but this became heavy when you had to go up and pick up the ball every time someone scored. It didn't take long for the fund to be removed. YMCA was the biggest organizer of basketball games in the early days. Then they changed as the game became more and more popular and started to get a little tricky. It was believed that the turmoil that had become inherent in the game was not in line with KFUM's ideals and began to disconnect from the game. The focus of basketball history shifted to other sports organizations. The first professional league was formed in 1898, the National Basketball League. One of his goals was to promote a little more sporting pursuit and make the game less difficult. However, the league was not to survive long and ended after only five years.

Naismith's commitment to the game continued and he was very involved in taking the game to universities. It didn't take long before it was played at universities across the country, and the first official game between the universities was in 1895. An important event in the history of basketball was the introduction of a 1937 national championship tournament.

Professional basketball became much more organized and popular in 1946 with the arrival of the Basketball Association of America. This organization later became the National Basketball Association (NBA). Another organization, the American Basketball Association, was created in 1967, but nine years later they combined to bring us the NBA forum, as we know it today.

In 1926 came the arrival of a team of basketball players who originated in Chicago in the early 20s. The team was created by Abe Saperstein and has become an exhibition team. No history in basketball history would be complete without mentioning them. As a competitive team, the Harlem Globetrotters have had tremendous success and would initially only give way to entertainment after securing a good advantage in a match. Now they are more famous for their entertainment factor than for their sporting performance. They still rarely lose a match, claiming that all their matches played for viewing are "real and competitive" competitive games. They are certainly highly qualified and very entertaining.
