Useful tips to paint your leather
The leather can be illuminated by adding paint on it. This is also a good way to make it unique from the other types of leather crafts. You can do it yourself and the methods are simple and easy to follow. It would be good to do some paint practice first on some old pieces of leather. This way you would avoid mistakes when you finally paint your new leather.
Use a damp cloth to clean your leather. If your leather is waxed, you will notice some shine on it. You can get rid of the shine by rubbing gently with very fine sandpaper. Then wipe it with a damp cloth once more.
Then, clean more in the area where you want to paint. This time use an old toothbrush moistened with alcohol and gently brush the leather. The purpose of this is to remove oil coatings that could prevent the paint from sticking on the leather.
Make your painting by combining a part of water with a part of water-based acrylic paint. Use handmade brushes to start painting. Paint a coat first and wait a while for the paint to sink into the leather. You can apply a second coat of paint in diluted form.
You can control the tones of your painting. You can paint your leather many times, but allow a drying time for each coating. You can apply paint in its undiluted form to make its shadow darker and brighter. To make a color less bright, dilute your paint and allow some drying time for the paint. When you have the color you want, you will no longer have to apply additional coats of paint.
Try to gently remove the leather from the edges while the paint continues to dry. Be careful not to stain keeping the painted part away from the rest of the leather area. Then, be sure to allow it to dry completely.
Leather remains one of the most popular materials used to make accessories and other functional things. It is already attractive in its own simple appearance, but you can still improve it as you wish.
