Taxi service: how to find and choose

No matter where you live, there is a taxi company in your area. Whether you live in a bustling city like New York and Chicago, or in the quiet Midwest like Fargo, there will always be a demand for taxi service. This guide will give you a basic overview of what to look for when choosing a taxi company.

Even in the smallest cities, there may be dozens of taxi companies operated by owner operators and small businesses. This makes it difficult to eliminate the good from the bad. The first thing to do is log in and search for a taxi service directory or use Google's " Call black cab" followed by "your area". This will open a list of local taxi companies in your area. From the list, try to select at least three or five taxi companies. Now that you have your list in hand, it's time to do some research. Two of the best websites for this are Rip-off Report and Better Business Bureau. Most reputable companies will be part of the Better Business Bureau or, at a minimum, a taxi association. Also, be aware that the reviews in the Scam Report are only one side of the story and may even be malicious competitors trying to ruin the name of taxi services. Use your own judgment to find out if this person had a really bad experience or is looking for blood. Now that you've investigated, it's time to call your list.

It is important to ask a few questions in advance when calling taxi companies. The first thing to ask is the hours of operation. Most taxi companies will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but some of the smaller companies will only open until 3 AM. This can be very important depending on whether you are just looking for an airport transfer or need a ride home from the crawling night bar. Now that you're out of the way, the next thing to ask is how much they cost, and be sure to get a quick estimate of how much it will cost to get you from point A to your destination point. You should have your addresses handy and be ready to tell them the miles you will be traveling. After you have called all the taxi companies on your list, now is the time to choose your service.

Keep in mind that the cheapest service is not always the best. Sometimes it pays to pay a little more to get that service with all the praise and positive reviews. At least he is not tied to any service plan like other companies and a bad taxi trip cannot harm him.
